It's no joke. Laughing is good for your health. Numerous scientific studies have been published showing that laughing reduces stress hormones, lowers blood pressure, increases heart rate, and strengthens internal muscles. One researcher estimated that 20 seconds of laughing works the heart as much as three minutes of hard rowing. Another study showed that laughing 100 times is as much of a workout as 15 minutes on an exercise bike.

It turns out that laughing also supports your immune system by increasing the number of infection-fighting T-cells, B-cells (disease-destroying antibodies), and immunoglobulins A (which fights upper respiratory tract infections) and G and M, which also fight infection. As if that weren't reason enough to smile, laughing releases endorphins, those delightful neurotransmitters that relieve pain and produce a feeling of euphoria.

Perhaps best of all, laughing has no known adverse side-effects!
